INTERESTING SCIENCE STUUF (GONE VIRAL)

Hey guys and gals,

For the last month or so we have been learning about plants/botany. And let me tell you that I have learn't a lot. So I guess I'll just list a few. 

1. The Latin/scientific name for Kawakawa plant is Macropiper Excelsum. 
2. A couple of ways that plants attract insects are acting like a dead animal and having nectar. 
3. The different parts of a flower. 
4. How photosynthesis works (more detailed)

The final cowntdown

Hey guys (and gals)

There is only three more weeks to go and I would like to achieve a bit. 

First of all I would love it if Evans won the house cup. It would be great because I've put a lot of effort into this year. But there are  other houses thinking the same.

 Also I would like it if rm 10 could win another game of doge-ball. Obviously we have been struggling because of reasons that will be clear on the court. 

Adding onto the house cup, It would be amazing if we could also win the house carols so we can give the future house captains a head start

Also If you haven't heard I got into the semi finals for the speech competition. I only know that I'm up against Francesca, Joshua, Maeghan and Lawrence.

Speech's

Hey guys (and gals),

 On Wednesday through to Friday  and I'm ready. I've memorized it and and I am confident that I will do well. The competition in our class is crazy. We have Francesca, Caoimhe, James, Mahon and Me. Mrs Bolger will have a very hard time choosing.  The past few years, I have gone to the finals once and to the semi-finals two times. 

So overall  I think that I have an alright chance of getting through but I'm not too concerned about the outcome.

Book week

Hey guys (and gals),

Last week was book week and a lot happened. On Friday was the book quiz and book character day. Also an author came to talk too us about her job. Plus there was the book swap on Wednesday and Thursday. 

 

For the book character day I dressed up as Winston from the maze runner. We had the book parade in the morning, then the book quiz was in  the afternoon. The book quiz went great especially because Evans won it by 15 house points. In total, I donated three book for the book swap. But I didn't get any books because by the time I got don to the library, all the good books were taken. The activity that I did was art based on the book Demigods and Magicians.

BOOKS

Hey guys (and gals),
Welcome to my 50th post!
If anyone has been here since the start (which I doubt) congratulations.
Anyway back to the topic.

I cant remember my favorite book when I was younger but I can remember always reading the 'Rascal the dragon' series because it was a great series. Now I have a lot of favorite authors such as James Patterson, Joseph Delaney and David hill. I like them all because they make interesting 1st person books. The best book I've read this year has to be Apollo trials an I would recommend it to Dhyanesh. Its a book about the god Apollo who gets sent down to earth as a mortal.

Production

Hey guys (and gals),

Today I'm goiong to talk to you all about the production.

As everyone should know last week we had the production on Wednesday and Thursday. I think that it went amazing. My favourite part was definitely acting as Alan-a-Dale.

The best part of my role in the production was everything. There were alot of funny moments durinig the production. It would take a long time to list all the funny moments. If I could've done anything different, I would've remembered that one line that I forgot. But I dont think that many people remembered that. Overall, I think that the production was a great experience.

Let's inquire some space

Hey guys (and gals). By the way this information is based on August 2016 in New York

I'm going to tell you all something that I learned about NASA/space.

Apparently this august was the hottest august since 136 years of modern record-keeping. Usually throughout the year, the peak month is July. Last month also was 0.98 degrees Celsius warmer than the mean August temperature. 

Also, a small asteroid safely flew past Earth today at 10:20 a.m. PDT at a distance of about 25,000 miles (40,000 kilometers). The asteroid is estimated to be between 25 to 50 feet (7 and 16 meters) in diameter. Apparently it is the closest the space rock will come to Earth for at least the next half century. The asteroid was discovered on the 5th of September by a group of astronomers. The astronomers used the 60-inch Cassegrain reflector telescope which was located at the summit of Mount Lemmon in the Catalina Mountains north of Tucson, Arizona. We're definitely lucky that it didn't hit us or else there would have been severe damage, especially if it hit a country.

Space Project

Hey guys (and gals)

This week I'm going to tell you all about the space project that everyone is supposed to do. There are 10 activities but we have to do only 6 throughout three weeks. I've finished two of them; the crossword and my weight on other planets in our solar system.

The crossword was quite easy because all you had to do was write the word then a clue for the word and BOOM. There's your crossword. The weight on each planet wasn't too hard. I guess you could say I did two of the easiest tasks last week. I didn't exactly learn anything because I didn't do the activity where you had to report on what happened in space or anything that would cause me to learn.

Time management

Hey guys (and gals),

This week I'm going to talk about time management. I usually complete all my tasks by Thursday or Friday.

I do most of my tasks at home. I am making the most of my time at school. Especially since Mrs Bolger brought in the 15 minute system. Its a thing where Mrs Bolger gives us 15 minutes to complete a task.

Usually peace and quiet helps me concentrate. While noise is usually distracting. To overcome difficulties the whole class would have to contribute in being a little bit quieter. Because I'm sure that everyone needs quiet to concentrate. I guess you could say that it's a fact.

Dance the night away..................................................

Hey guys (and gals),
In the production we have to learn dances. The year 7&8's have to do two dances. I have learnt one dance and it's alright. I'm not interested in dancing so that may be the reason that I think that it's average. Since I was sick last week I didn't learn the second dance. The first dance is called Robbin Hood. I think the title means more robbing than the name Robin because there are two b's. I think that the first dance has a lot of disco moves probably because the song sounds like it was written in the 80's or 90's. Obviously I prefer the first dance for obvious reasons. I believe to make the dances successful, everyone has to be enthusiastic towards the dances and everyone has to try.

Hey guys (and gals),
I'm back. Finally.
Anyway as you guys (and gals) should know by now, this term we are doing book groups. I'm in a group with James, Grace, Liam, Avania and William and we are reading Tangerine. Its a book about a boy named Paul who loves football (soccer for all the american people reading) but his brother plays NFL (football for the Americans) and his dad supports his brother (Erik) way way way more. That's all I've pretty much read.

So far it's been a great book but I cant really say too much because I'm only 30 pages in ( or something around there). I like this book because mainly it's about Football but it also has a bit of mystery in it which gets me a bit more into it. Our reading group is working well because nobody is overshadowing the group and I see the crackers achievement only 10xp away (gaming joke). I already think that our discussions are really good.

Medieval Times

Hey (guys and gals),

I'm back after a week of no blimming electronics and I can tell you that was not easy. Anyway I'm here to tell you guys (and gals) about Medieval Week. Well it was really fun and i think that rm10 did a great job. I definitely learnt a lot about the medieval times. Especially about the feudal system because that's what I did as my topic. My favorite part was the mine craft. Mainly the 2 or so hours that we were on creative and we had to survive with each person being a different medieval role. We definitely could've decorated better. But to be fair, I didn't do most of it but I didn't do nothing.

   I definitely think that our decorating could've been better.

Kapa Haka

Hey guys (and gals),
For the last few weeks we have been learning Kapa Haka. We learned 2 dances and songs. One of them was a haka and the other was just a normal song. 

I found the normal song easy because we practiced that one a lot. The haka was a little harder because it was short but had alot of moves. 

If I practice alot more I reckon it could become easier.

Mine the Crafts

Hey guys (and gals),

For he past 2 weeks the intermediate classes have been working on minecraft villages. Rm 10 has the medium sized island and I reckon that we're doing pretty well considering the time and the recourses that we've had. I'm working on the shops with Jams, Sam and Ben. I'm in charge of the Butcher and the potter. Our group is also doing the Guild hall. I've finished the butcher and now I just have to do the potter and help on the guild hall. Our village is pretty historically accurate there is just a few buildings that I cant say are but I wont name them. I think that we have to work on our castle a bit more. I like the shops the best. I don't know why. Something just shouts WOW!! There has been a bit of controversy because some people h think that it's funny to dig tunnels from one class to another. It's not

Electives

Hey guys (and gals)

This term for electives I'm doing sport at Narnville. It's pretty much what it says. We do sport at Narnville. On The first week we did Volleyball. It was Pretty fun. On the second week we just played a whole bunch of different games. Last week we Played four corners which was a mix of 3 different sports.

 I learnt a range of sports ranging from volleyball to four corners. It was definitely what I expected because I did sport last time. If I try hard enough I can get the most out of it.

That's how we know we stuffed up

Our castle did not look anything like this.

Hey guys (and gals), last week we made model castles from card. I was in a group with James and Iraklis. It took quite a long-time to get it done especially because it was me and James doing all the work. I guess you can tell from that we didn't have good teamwork at all. I wont go into too much detail about who did what and who slowed us down. All I can say is that our castle is small because of someone who I will not name. The problems that we had were mainly with the design. At first we weren't going to colour it in but then we realised that we had to. That was a big problem because we had taped everything on and if we took the tape out the card would rip. In the end we made a less than half decent castle.

I got stitches

Hey guys (and gals), yesterday was the cross country and it did not go well for me at all. I was coming 3rd for most of the race until the last 250m, I collapsed 3 times. This was all because of the stich. First I fell near where Mr Lamont was then it was near the place where everybody was watching from. The last place I fell was behind the cricket nets. In the end I came 5th.

I think I showed perseverance when I kept falling over. I saw a bunch of other people showing perseverance when they didn't want to run but they still did.

I did see everyone showing empathy when they were supporting everyone. Even if people didn't do well they would still cheer everyone else on.

Speed Freak

Hey guys (and gals)  today I'm going to talk about a book that I thought  Speed freak is a book about a kart racer called Archie. His stepmother doesn't approve the fact that he competes in such a dangerous sport. Also his biggest rival is a rich bay that gets everything that he wants plus his rival wants to destroy him. 

I recommend this book for ages 12+ purely because of the............................interesting language used in  this book. I rate this book a 4.9/5 because it was nearly perfect.

I didn't see any  movies in the holidays but i did see   Batman vs Superman a few weeks before the holidays. And that book was pretty good. I don't think putting the 2 biggest DC superheroes in the same movie and fighting each other was the best idea. But hey that's only my opinion.

Hey guys (and girls),
This term I definetely learn't alot of things. And when I say alot, I mean ALOT. One of the things I learn't was Being a year 8 is alot harder than being a year 7. Mainly because the recount takes alot more effort and time. Another reason is that you are the role models of the school. I'm not saying that year 7's aren't supposed to be , I'm saying that year 8's probably have lot more presure because once they stuff up, there's no turning back.

Alpine Butterfly

Anyway the next thing that I learn't was a bunch of diferent knots. So at camp we learn't a bunch of different types of knots because we needed tham for when we used harnesses.I learn't how to do the alpine butterfly and the figure 8 with a byte. I found them very usefull because they stayed strong when I was climbing the tree.

The Cliffhanger

Finally the third thing that I learnd was I have great upper body and grip strength. I learnt this from when JL, James, Jigs and I started doing obstacles frome a show called American Ninja Warrior. We did cources like the cliffhanger, the body prop and devil steps. Everywhere we go, we try to make American Ninja Warrior cources. The cliffhanger is where you use only your fingers to get past ledges anly 2 inches deep.The other two are way too hard to explain so you should just search them up in your own time. American Ninja Warrior is a great show and I reccomend watching it.

When I first discovered all of these, It was really hard but I kept trying and I got there. Especially being a year 8 was hard but I adapted to my surroundings. I'm going to try harder and practice these for me to rememer these.

Easter

Hey Guys (and gals),

So the last five days were Easter and on Monday I went to Kashyapa's house and we went down to Alex Moore where we played football. While we were playing down at Alex Moore, there were other boys that were much older than us and they were playing a few meters away from us. Usually they would kick balls towards us and we kicked them back every time. I guess you could say that's something nice we did. That's what we always do if anyone kicks balls near us. One time we did that and to some older kids and they let us play a game of football with them. I reckon it's a lot easier for them because then they don't have to walk over to us and kick them back themselves. especially when they're tired. So I guess the moral is do the right thing and you will be rewarded.
